First Thursday Gallery Nights – 6-9 p.m. May 1 in downtown Whitefish; 14 Stumptown galleries showcase the region’s diverse array of artistic talent, with maps available at participating galleries. A sampling of artists and exhibits includes: ceramics by Barbara Lydon, mixed-media works by Linda Katsuda and sculpture by Danny Kraus at Walking Man Frame Shop and Gallery, with music by Edmund Fitzgerald; “Selective Focus Series” featuring photographs by Kelly Marchetti at Stumptown Art Studio; and Local Artist Invitational, showcasing works by several prominent and emerging artists, at Samarah Fine Art. First Friday Art Walk – 5-8 p.m. May 2 in Kalispell; art spots are open late, offering art fans ample opportunities to mingle with artmakers and view a visual smorgasbord of creativity. Paint, Metal and Mud showcases the intricate stone and metal work of Pat Nelson, while the dozen co-op artists offer their vision of the theme, “Bloomin’ in the Wind”; Colter Coffee offers cattle-marker paintings by Kelly Apgar; and Sassafras shows prints, giclees and original paintings by Shelle Lindholm. “Land Escapes” – through May 26 at Northwest Healthcare Healing Arts Galleries, Kalispell Regional Medical Center; artists share their interpretations of escaping into the land for fun, health and healing in this multi-media exhibit. “My Montana,” a solo exhibit by John Atkinson, is also on display. Reception: “Nature and Spirit: Frank Tetrault” – 5-7 p.m. May 29 at the Hockaday Museum of Art in Kalispell; from May 22-June 29, the museum showcases the fine carvings of this master sculptor. The National Bicycle Touring Portrait Collection also opens May 27, with photographs of touring bicyclists who have pedaled through western Montana on display through July 8.
