Experience the classics at Festival Amadeus
Fourteen world-class musicians and two string quartets perform some of the finest classical music of Mozart, Brahms, Hayden, Schubert, Debussy and others in Whitefish Aug. 4-9 during Festival Amadeus, presented by the Glacier Symphony and Chorale.
Performers include acclaimed violist Paul Coletti, pianist Robert Wright and lyric soprano Amy Pfrimmer, and the Bridger and Glacier string quartets.
Evening concerts at 8 p.m. in the Whitefish Performing Arts Center are preceded by social activities at the festival tent, open from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 6-11 p.m. daily and located one block from the performance hall.
The series begins with a free showing of the film, “Amadeus,” Monday (preceded by a community picnic at 5 p.m.); and continues with the Bridger String Quartet and Glacier String Quartet performing works of Dvorak, Mendelssohn and Mozart on Tuesday.
Wednesday’s “Lyrical Elegance” features works by Beethoven, Clarke, Mozart and Turina; and Thursday’s “Sonic Rhapsody” offers an evening of chamber music.

Fort Peck brings “Jesus Christ Superstar” to the stage
The Fort Peck Summer Theatre closes out the musical portion of its summer season with the rock opera “Jesus Christ Superstar” by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. The musical that launched Webber and Rice's careers along with a new era in musical theatre runs 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 4 p.m. Sundays at the Fort Peck Summer Theatre near Glasgow. Blues-infused party rocks the Magic City
The 2300-2500 blocks of Montana Avenue in Billings pulse with musical energy from 6 p.m.-midnight Aug. 8-9 during the seventh annual Magic City Blues Fest. Delbert McClinton headlines Friday’s show, and Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Betty Lavette are Saturday’s featured performers. Read more
Judith Gap chalks up 100 years
In August 1908, Judith Gap was officially incorporated as a town, and Aug. 16-17, it celebrates its 100th anniversary ... As the town prepares for the celebration of its 100th birthday, both the locals and newcomers marvel at the changes, especially the 90 gleaming white, oversized pinwheels that dot the landscape. The “wind farm,” or more properly – the Judith Gap Energy Center – has provided another boost for the local economy, bringing in everyone from workers who construct and maintain the towers, to curious tourists, science buffs and photographers who are eager to tour the park. Chokecherry reigns supreme in Lewistown
The puckery little berry that grows wild in Montana reigns supreme in downtown Lewistown on Saturday, Sept. 6, during the 19th annual Montana Chokecherry Festival, sponsored by the Lewistown Area Chamber of Commerce ... The chokecherry is a deciduous shrub, native to North America, that grows along water and on hillsides. The plants typically bloom in July and the fruit begins to ripen in August. The reddish fruits are used to make jellies, jams, wine and other culinary delights. Read more
Tickets, campsites still available at Rockin’ the Rivers
A month before the first act takes the stage, the festival had sold out its 1,200 general campsites and organizers had created an overflow camping area with an additional 300 sites. “We knew that the tenth year at the Bridge would draw a big crowd,” said Rockin’ the Rivers president Mark Vandolah, “but we weren’t expecting to sell out of campsites this far before the show.” Read more
Montana State Fair comes to Expo Park
Lumberjacks, hypnotists, set of twin magicians, swampbilly singers, a one-handed juggler, a country singer, a kangaroo, racing pigs and eclectic offerings are on tap at the Montana State Fair, July 25-Aug.... Nine Billboard artists take the stage, with acts ranging from classic rock and country to shock rock and teen pop.
