Surface Design Association offers first Montana exhibit

Whooping Crones Gallery in Missoula hosts the inaugural Surface Design Association Show in November and December. The opening and artists’ reception coincides with First Friday festivities, 5-8 p.m. Nov. 7.
The show includes fiber art, wall pieces, screens, wearable-art and 3-D work from the organization’s statewide membership. Also on display during the opening is the SDA Swatch Library, a national collection of fiber swatches demonstrating different textile techniques.

Montana members participating in this show include Cathryn Mallory, Dianne Wilder, Marty Hannon, Nancy Erickson, Michele Weaver-Knowles, Joan Renne, Michel Colville, Carol O'Bagy, Cynthia St. Charles, Gail Cluff, Katy Nygard, Kim Kapalka, Brooke Atherton, Georgine Forgatch, Carla Pyle, Louise Barker, Karen Burton, Judy Parkins and Laura Cater-Woods.

“Turbo rockers” Saliva and Drowning Pool tour Montana
Saliva and Drowning Pool kicked off a new tour on Oct. 17 that brings the two bands, plus Tantric and Jet Black Stare, to Missoula, Butte and Great Falls. The new tour dates come as the new video for Drowning Pool’s latest single “37 Stitches,” recently named Blender’s breakout video, pervades internet music sites. National Folk Festival taking applications from artisans
Organizers are accepting applications for vendors to sell their work at the Montana Arts Marketplace during the 71st National Folk Festival, July 10-12 in Butte. Openings are available for 25 Montana-based artists/craftspeople and 20 Native American artists who will be selected through a juried process and have the opportunity to sell their products to thousands of attendees at the event.

RMBT premieres documentary and “A Birthday Jewel”
Never one to rest on her laurels, Charlene Campbell, artistic director of the Rocky Mountain Ballet, is already choreographing new works for “A Birthday Jewel,” a celebration of the company’s 10th anniversary.
