International Choral Festival spreads global goodwill in Missoula
The eighth International Choral Festival, July 15-18, brings 13 world-class choirs to the Garden City for four days of outstanding concerts, cultural exchange and global goodwill.
Since 1987 hundreds of volunteers, host families and contributors have joined together making the triennial Choral Festival a unique Montana tradition. Since its beginning, the festival has brought 5,200 singers from 40 countries to make music and memories in Montana.
Choirs from Czech Republic, Estonia, Germany, Mexico, South Korea, Sweden and Taiwan have been invited to participate. They’ll join choirs from California, Colorado, Michigan and Montana in offering 20 public concerts.
A sampling includes the Hover Chamber Choir of Armenia, KammerChor Saarbrecken of Germany, Coral Divertimento Mexico and Koritsia of Sweden.
“With the diverse line-up of outstanding choirs, our audiences are in for a real treat in July,” says executive director Carol Stovall.

From endurance runs to marathons, Montana offers rugged fun for runners
The Big Sky Country is full of challenging running events this summer, culminating the Montana Governor’s Cup Marathon on Sept. 20. A sampling of rigorous runs and relays includes The Glacier Challenge on July 11, a six-leg multi-sport relay that includes 5k and 10k runs, with kayak, road bike, mountain bike and canoe legs. The Opera House Theatre in Philipsburg kicks off its 2009 season in late June with three shows: “Having a Wonderful Time, Wish You Were Her,” "Butterscotch" and its "All Vaudeville Extravaganza!" Art and music abound in Washoe Park
Washoe Park in Anaconda overflows with 75 juried art and crafts booths, ethnic foods and non-stop entertainment July 17-19 during the 30th annual outdoor arts fest. The Cantrells kick off the festival at 3 p.m. Friday with original folk and bluegrass.

Trail of Painted Buffalo leads to art auction
West Yellowstone’s Painted Buffalo Herd, consisting of 26 cows and 10 calves, will roam through town for one final summer, before being auctioned to the highest bidders on Aug. 29. Bidding is also available online at www.wyed.org. Read more
