“To Kill a Mockingbird” comes to Whitefish and Missoula

Whitefish Theatre Company’s season opens Sept. 18-19 with a performance of Harper Lee’s classic, “To Kill a Mockingbird,” presented by the Montana Repertory Theatre.  

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturday at the Whitefish Performing Arts Center.

Whitefish Theatre Co., in collaboration with the Flathead County Library System and the National Endowment for the Arts’ Big Read program, is bringing this Pulitzer Prize-winner to the Flathead Valley. The Big Read is a program that aims to restore reading to the heart of American life.

“It has been 10 years since the Montana Rep’s national tour has come to Whitefish,” said Carolyn Pitman, executive director of the Whitefish Theatre Co. “We are thrilled to be working with the Flathead Library System and the Big Read to bring this wonderful story to our audience members.”

Blues and Brews raises funds for River’s Edge Trail

The River’s Edge Trail, a 30-mile trail system that wends along the Missouri River, benefits from the 14th annual Blues and Brews, 5:30 p.m.-midnight Sept. 11 at Mansfield Convention Center and Margaret Park in Great Falls. Stephanie Davis | Western Bliss and Western Bling

After spending a good number of years writing hit songs for others in Nashville, Columbus singer, songwriter and instrumentalist Stephanie Davis is devoting time to new things. The first two volumes of a promised series, Western Bliss and Western Bling, have hit the shelves. William C. Pack | The Bottom of the Sky

William C. Pack’s first novel in many ways parallels the author’s own life story. Pack is a Montana native, who dropped out of school at 16, began his career in the financial world at age 21, and became the youngest executive vice president and divisional director of the largest financial firm in the world. River City Roots Festival: Free music in the heart of Missoula

Eight bands converge on Missoula Aug. 29-30 for the annual River City Roots festival. A juried art show, kids’ activities and a four-mile run/walk are also part of the offerings at this free event. Music on Main kicks off at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
