Allen Russell | “Six Shooters of the American West”
Allen Russell curated and is participating in a new photography exhibit, "Six Shooters of the American West," on display May 28-Sept. 6 at the Livingston Depot Museum. ”The photographers I sought out for this exhibit all make the West their full-time home and know its locations, people and animals intimately,” says Russell. Randall Roberts | “Bromoils III”
Gallatin River Gallery in Big Sky is hosting its third solo exhibition of unique bromoils by Red Lodge artist Randall Roberts through April 23. Used by the early pictorialists in the early 20th century, a bromoil combines photography and painting in haunting one-of-a-kind images of wild horses, tipis and Yellowstone Park landscapes. Robert Copple honors three iconic Americans with “Charlie’s Vision Quest”
Robert Copple says two iconic American artists – Norman Rockwell and Charlie Russell – inspired his painting, “Charlie's Vision Quest,” which is part of “The Russell: The Sale to Benefit the C.M. Russell Museum,” March 17-19 in Great Falls. “The inspiration came to me as powerful as a lighting bolt after reading a biography on Charlie Russell,” he says. Read more
Wayne Hammer | Metalsmith
The metal works of Wayne Hammer, on display through March 17 at the Hockaday Museum of Art in Kalispell, are born of a combined interest in both the mechanical and natural world. The range of subject material varies from a small sculpture of a railroad trestle to more classical, wearable gold jewelry based upon floral motifs. Jean Albus | “Rapture on the Plains”
The title for Jean Albus’s exhibit, “Rapture on the Plains,” on display through June 4 at Paris Gibson Square Museum of Art in Great Falls, borrows from the idea of being caught up or carried away. When one encounters the work of this photographic artist who currently resides in Bridger – there is an immediate sense that she finds joyful moments in the austerity of her surroundings. Read more
Cathryn Mallory | “Adorned Constraint”
Stand far away from Cathryn Mallory’s dress sculpture, “Ritual of Beauty,” you see a lovely but wild silver evening dress, with its draped skirt and sculpted bodice. Then look more closely: the bodice is a chaotic jumble of perforated metal curlers, hair clips, and metal found objects … From Jan. 18 to April 3, Mallory’s exhibition “Adorned Constraint” will be on display at the Holter Museum in Helena. Paris Gibson Square hosts annual benefit art auction
Paris Gibson Square Museum of Art hosts its 14th annual Art Auction and Benefit Dinner on Feb. 5 at Meadow Lark Country Club in Great Falls. The evening kicks off with cocktails and hors d’ oeuvres and an opportunity to preview art in both the silent and live auctions. Auction items are on display at the museum prior to the benefit.
