New art museum to join Bair Family Museum

Members of the C.M. Bair Family Trust and long-time friends of the Bair family gathered July 24 at the Bair Museum in Martinsdale to witness the groundbreaking for the new Charles M. Bair Family Art Museum, slated to open next May. The groundbreaking date marked the birthdays of Montana philanthropist Charles M. Bair’s wife, Mary, and his two equally altruistic daughters, Marguerite and Alberta. Read more

Oktoberfish celebrates Stumptown Art Studio

Oktoberfish, a fundraiser for Stumptown Art Studio in Whitefish, includes beer and wine tastings and entertainment, 6-10 p.m. Sept. 25 at 1380 Karrow Avenue. The event includes Ales in the Biergarten, a wine tasting, and Dinner by the Bite, and music by Big Fish Radio. Established in 1995, Stumptown Art Studio celebrates 15 years in 2010 as Whitefish’s first and only nonprofit community art center. Read more

Park County Studio Tour: From barns to lofts to workshops

Twenty-five artists from Park County, Mont., will open their studios this fall as part of the second annual Park County Studio Tour, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 18. Spearheaded by the Park County Friends of the Arts/Danforth Gallery in Livingston, the self-guided tour offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the creative workspace of area artists, who will be on hand to visit and answer questions. Western Rendezvous brings wealth of art to Helena

The Western Rendezvous of Art, Montana’s premier summer art exhibition and sale, celebrates 32 years Aug. 19-22 in Helena. The rendezvous features art by 47 members of the Northwest Rendezvous Group (NWR) and four invited guests, free seminars and loads of western hospitality. Close encounters with Montana Landscapes

The Holter Museum of Art in 2010, the centennial year of Glacier National Park, is taking a new look at Montanan’s relationships to landscape with a new exhibition, “Montana Landscape: The Eye of the Beholder,” featuring more than 70 contemporary Montana painters whose work ranges from watercolor to photo montage, from artists Monte Dolack to Sandra dal Pogetto, from Elizabeth Bass to Ted Waddell. “Leonardo da Vinci: Machines in Motion” promises intrigue and interaction for all ages

The highly interactive “Leonardo da Vinci: Machines in Motion” exhibit is on display at the Museum of the Rockies at Montana State University in Bozeman through Sept. 11. This traveling exhibit includes 40 of da Vinci’s inventions, meticulously built from his technical drawings. Visitors can engage with, and fully activate, most machines. Read more
