John Prine: “American treasure” comes to Butte, Missoula

Some four decades since his remarkable debut, former mailman John Prine has stayed at the top of his game, both as a performer and songwriter. Recently honored at the Library of Congress by U.S. Poet Laureate Ted Kooser, he’s been elevated into the realm of bonafide American treasures. Inaugural music festival pays tribute to the Montana Band

Country-rock legends Poco and Pure Prairie League join more than at dozen acts at the inaugural Montana Music Festival, Sept. 2-3 in Whitefish. The Montana Band, whose five members died July 4, 1987, in a plane crash on a hillside above Flathead Lake, will be memorialized with the jam session and music festival, and organizers hope to build an outdoor concert venue in their honor.
