
Red Lodge resident named Female Athlete of the Year
The choice for the 2008 National Congress of State Games Female Athlete of the Year is Marlene Tetrault of Red Lodge. At the age of 70 this “Golden Girl” won gold medals in the Big Sky State Games half-marathon running road race, as well as adding gold medals in both the triathlon and tennis events. Read more
Whitefish Mountain unleashes Runaway Train bike trail
Whitefish Mountain Resort hosts a party and ribbon-cutting ceremony Saturday, Aug. 16, to celebrate the opening of “Runaway Train,” a new freestyle downhill mountain-biking trail on the slopes of Big Mountain.... It features more than 29 berms, six rock drops, one rock wall ride, three natural terrain wall rides, more than 24 jumps of varying sizes, one large technical section of single track near the top, and a “flowy” section on Russ’s Street at the end. Going-to-the-Sun Road opens for season
The opening of the famed Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park has been a challenging process due to a snowy winter, late-spring storms and avalanche activity. But on July 2, the entire road – which celebrated its 75th anniversary in June – finally opened for visitors. “Our road crews have been working extremely hard to open the Sun Road this spring,” says Chas Cartwright, Glacier’s new superintendent. “Plowing in avalanche terrain is no easy task.” Read more • (1) Comments
Bozeman hosts Summer Biathlon
Located one half mile north of the Bridger Bowl Ski Area, Bohart ranch provides the backdrop for the Summer Biathlon, consisting of three runs, totaling 5k, and two shooting rounds.... “Class C” documents Big Sky girls’ basketball
Directors Justin Lubke and Shasta Grenier won the Big Sky Award at the fifth annual Big Sky Documentary Film Festival for "Class C." The film was produced by Wally Kurth (who also narrated the production), Tim Swain and Markus Zetler, in partnership with Montana PBS, and features a score by Grammy nominated composer and Montana native Philip Aaberg.
