Intermountain Opera stages “Hansel and Gretel, Humperdinck”
Intermountain Opera Bozeman stages the classic Brothers Grimm folk tale, “Hansel and Gretel,” set to music by Engelbert Humperdinck, 7 p.m. Oct. 14 and 3 p.m. Oct. 16 at Willson Auditorium. Humperdinck’s first and most popular opera premiered in 1893 to rave reviews and has never lost popularity, perhaps because the libretto is not nearly as grim as Grimm. Read more
The Next Stage: Whitefish Theatre Co. hires new artistic director
After 32 years of nurturing the creative and artistic passions of its community, Whitefish Theatre Company is looking forward to its next 32 years. Part of "The Next Stage" is staff transitions, including the appointment of a new artistic director. Nancy Nei, one of the company’s founding members, is stepping down as artistic director this year, after serving 10 years in that role. Jesse DeVine has been hired to replace her. Read more
Joe Martinez takes leading role at MCT, Inc.
Joseph Martinez brings plenty of breadth and experience to his new role as artistic director at MCT, Inc. The veteran actor and director spent 13 years with Missoula Children’s Theatre and MCT Community Theatre, before leaving in 2005 to help open the Arizona Broadway Theatre. “When the artistic director position opened up, I jumped at the chance to return to MCT," he says. Ed Asner, recipient of seven Emmy Awards, five Golden Globe Awards, and a member of the TV Academy Hall of Fame, depicts Franklin Delano Roosevelt in “FDR,” 8 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Mother Lode Theatre in Butte and 7:30 p.m. Sept. 25 at the Myrna Loy Center in Helena. ATP delivers murder, mayhem and romance in “No Way to Treat a Lady”
A killer on the loose. A cop on the edge. A mother on a guilt trip. These are the ingredients for musical murder and mayhem in Alpine Theatre Project's final production of the summer season, “No Way to Treat a Lady,” running Aug. 9-21 at the Whitefish Performing Arts Center. The musical comedy thriller, equal parts hilarity and heart-stopping suspense, is based on the 1968 film of the same name. Read more

Hip-hop company headlines Montana Dance Festival
Havre briefly becomes the dance capital of Montana Aug. 12-13 when Lifesongs of Montana presents a dance competition, workshop and performance. Josh Burns and the Unseen, an innovative dance troupe from Portland, Ore., teach nine workshops Friday, and then perform and serve as celebrity judges for Montana’s Best Dance Crew Competition that evening.
