Ice-Breaker-'07.jpgJoin more than 3,000 runners, joggers and fitness walkers in Great Falls, Sunday, April 17, 2011, for one of Montana's premier running events. Established in 1980, The Ice Breaker Road Race has been named one of the top 100 road races in the country by Runner's World magazine. The course starts in downtown Great Falls at the Civic Center, heads East through the business district, winds through several residential neighborhoods, crosses the scenic Central Avenue West Bridge, and eventually ends up back downtown. The Ice Breaker event is geared toward families, as well as experienced and elite runners, it offers a competitive 5-mile race, along with a 3-mile competitive or recreational run and a 1-mile jog/fitness walk. A special "Race the Penguin" (Pacer the Penguin is the official race mascot) event is offered for the younger kids in the 1-mile event. All distances are on asphalt and are mostly flat. The 5-mile race is a RRCA/TAC certified distance and "chip" timing is provided for accurate and almost-immediate race results. For safety and courtesy, please do not bring radio/stereo headsets, dogs, bicycles, skateboards or rollerblades to the event.ice-breaker_map.jpg All race participants receive a long-sleeved t-shirt, a finisher's award medal and lunch.
