A killer on the loose. A cop on the edge. A mother on a guilt trip. These are the ingredients for musical murder and mayhem in Alpine Theatre Project's final production of the summer season, “No Way to Treat a Lady,” running Aug. 9-21 at the Whitefish Performing Arts Center.

The musical comedy thriller, equal parts hilarity and heart-stopping suspense, was written and composed by Douglas J. Cohen, and is based on the 1968 film of the same name starring Rod Steiger, George Segal and Lee Remick. The film was written by William Goldman, who also wrote the cult-favorite, “The Princess Bride.” It chronicles the cat-and-mouse game played between a meek New York City detective and a failed actor who turns to murder in order to gain publicity in The New York Times.

"This show has it all," says ATP Artistic Director Betsi Morrison. "Its got great music, a rip-roaring tale of suspense, and enough comedy to make Mel Brooks proud, not to mention our trademark Broadway talent."

The talent Morrison is mentioning includes ATP favorites, Luke Walrath, Nick and Rebecca Spear, and Nora Mae Lyng, who has performed in eight Broadway shows, including “Les Miserables,” and helped create the hilarious "Forbidden Broadway" series.

Morrison sees “No Way to Treat a Lady” as a great complement to ATP's latest production, “She Loves Me.”

The final show of the season “contains everything that ATP does best," she says. "Incredible singing, great storytelling and a wicked sense of humor."

Show times are 8 p.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays and 6 p.m. Sundays, Aug. 9-21. Call 406-862-SHOW for reservations, or buy tickets online at http://www.alpinetheatreproject.org.
