Blues & Brews benefits the River’s Edge Trail
Published: August 25, 2008
Blues & Brews, known as “The Best Party in Great Falls,” brings Roy Rogers and his three-piece Delta Rhythm Kings and Montana pianist Philip Aaberg to the Mansfield Convention Center Sept. 5. The 13th annual benefit for the River’s Edge Trail delivers over six hours of great music, food and ice-cold beer from 5:30 p.m.-midnight, with proceeds going to the expansion of this popular trail along the Missouri River.
Rogers and Aaberg headlined the 2000 Blues & Brews to rave reviews. Rogers was nominated Best Blues Guitarist in 2003 by the W. C. Handy Awards, and his virtuosity and style of slide guitar has been recognized worldwide in such publications as Rolling Stone, USA Today, Billboard, Guitar Player and Acoustic Guitar. Aaberg has played with a roster of great musicians, including the Boston Pops, Peter Gabriel, The Doobie Brothers and Elvin Bishop.
Back by popular demand as the opening act is the 49th Street Blues Project, playing their 7th Blues & Brews. The concert is enhanced by high quality video presentations on two giant screens, located inside the convention center and outside in the beer garden.
A wide variety of microbrews, domestic beers, wines and non-alcoholic beverages are available, while the food court serves items from three top local restaurants: 3D International, The Breaks, and Goode’s Q & Bayou Grill.
In the past 12 years, this event has raised over $300,000 for the trail. Proceeds are used to match state and federal trail grants to design and construct new segments of the trail, and for special projects that improve the existing trail.
Tickets are $25 and available only at the Mansfield Box Office or online at ticketing.greatfallsmt.net or by phone at 406-455-8514. For more information, visit River’s Edge Trail, www.thetrail.org.
