British scholar explores “The Shakespeare Enigma”
Published: July 7, 2010
Peter Dawkins, the author of The Shakespeare Enigma and The Wisdom of Shakespeare series and a world-renowned Shakespearian scholar, explores the myth and mystery of The Bard in four presentations.
Dawkins offers “The Mystery of Sir Francis Bacon, Shakespeare, and Why it Matters Today!” from 7-9 p.m. July 9 at the Emerson Center in Bozeman. He also presents “The Shakespeare Group,” an in-depth discovery of who’s who in the group that wrote the Shakespeare plays, 2-5 p.m. July 10 at Emigrant Hall in the Paradise Valley, south of Livingston ($10-$15); and a seminar, “Bacon, Shakespeare, and the Mystic Foundations of America as the New Atlantis,” 10 a.m.-5 p.m. July 11 at Emigrant Hall ($40-$75).
He also presents the Wisdom of Shakespeare Actors Workshop, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. July 12-14, four miles south of Emigrant ($65 per day or $150 for both).
In the June issue of the Montana Pioneer, Shakespeare researcher Paula Kehoe notes that Dawkins “brings to light the subtle fabric woven through the Works that stems from the Western philosophical traditions and their relevance to audiences today.”
“Peter is also bringing his scholarship and wit to bear on one of the great ‘who-done-its’ of history: The Authorship Controversy (as in, who actually wrote the Shakespeare plays anyway?). The who-done-it question dates back to the 1800s,” writes Kehoe.
Dawkins, she adds, “has an intriguing theory that encompasses all the evidence and offers a great adventure of the mind as he navigates the reader through the clues.”
