Kathy Mattea headlines the Bitterroot Performing Arts Council’s six-concert series, which brings an eclectic mix of music and theatre to Hamilton.

The Irish supergroup Solas launched the series Nov. 14. Mattea, who takes the stage at the Hamilton Performing Arts Center at 8 p.m. Dec. 19, is the beloved Grammy-winning artist of such classic hits as "Where’ve You Been" and "18 Wheels and a Dozen Roses." One of the most respected female country stars of her era, she melds elements of American roots music, including folk, bluegrass, gospel, country, and Celtic, into her own sound. The concert includes favorites that span her career and songs to celebrate the season. Tickets are $38.

The series continues in 2010 with:

Billy Jonas, 7:30 p.m. Jan. 29: In sing-alongs, bang-alongs and whisper-alongs, as well as improvised songs, this artist’s primary instrument is the audience! A self-proclaimed "industrial re-percussionist," Jonas’s heartwarming work is described as “Frank Zappa meets Pete Seeger.” Tickets are $10-$15.

Wu Man with the String Ochestra of the Rockies, 8 p.m. Feb. 20: Internationally renowned pipa virtuoso is recognized as an outstanding exponent of this lute-like Chinese instrument. A member of Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble, the Grammy-nominated Wu Man collaborates with Montana’s own String Orchestra of the Rockies, in celebration of their 25th anniversary season. Tickets are $20-$25.

Cirque Mechanics’ “Birdhouse Factory,” 7:30 p.m. March 21: Show brings together circus acrobatics and early 20th century machines to tell a story of laughter, love, flight, loss and … birdhouses in a family-friendly, Broadway-style theatre spectacle. Tickets are $30-$35.

Punch Brothers, 8 p.m. April 10: Comprised of five young and fiercely talented musicians – including composer and mandolinist Chris Thile of the wildly popular Nickel Creek – the band has already scored a Grammy nomination and performed and recorded with a star-studded list of the country’s most prominent instrumentalists. Tickets are $20-$25.
