Montana Festival of the Book celebrates 10 years

The Montana Festival of the Book celebrates its 10th anniversary Oct. 22-24 in downtown Missoula. More than 75 authors participate in a variety of readings, panels, exhibits and demonstrations.   

Among the highlights:

A star-studded panel of crime writers writers, including Dennis Lehane, George Pelecanos, Laura Lippman and James Grady, present “The Last Good Kiss: A Tribute to James Crumley” on Thursday. The Missoula crime novelist died more than a year ago.

On Friday, best-selling author and humorist David Sedaris reads from his work Friday evening at the Wilma (visit griztix.com). Also on tap are an Author Reception; the second annual Poetry Slam; and the screening of “The Far Side of Jericho,” a film written by the late Missoula novelist Crumley, featuring director and co-writer Tim Hunter and screenwriter Roger Hedden.

Saturday’s offerings include an interview with David Simon, creator of the hit TV crime series, “The Wire”; a reading by crime writers Pelecanos and Lippman; and a Poetry Salon. Festivities culminated in the Gala Reading featuring James Lee Burke, Kevin Canty and Marianne Wiggins.
