Rocky Mountain Ballet Theatre presents Holiday Spectacular
Published: November 14, 2009
Rocky Mountain Ballet Theatre celebrates the season with its “Montana Holiday Spectacular,” 7:30 p.m. Nov. 27-28 at the University Theater in Missoula.
The troupe opens the show with its “Catch and Release Kickline,” which – along with the “Bonanza Medley” – celebrates the state of Montana.
New York choreographer Kathryn Posin created the Rock Creek Tangos; and “After the Feast Jitterbug” promises to have audiences dancing in the aisles.
The second half of the show premieres dances that pay tribute to countries that RMBT will visit in 2010 and 2011. For the troupe’s upcoming diplomatic tour to Russia, Artistic Director Charlene Campbell has created a piece to music from the film “Dr. Zhivago.”
RMBT returns to China in 2011 (the company toured to six cities in China, including Beijing and Shanghai, prior to the Olympics, and Campbell and dancer Ashley Hagler returned to China Oct. 22-Nov. 1 2008, by invitation, to attend the second Beijing Dance Academy International Ballet Competition). In preparation for the next trip, RMBT premieres a series of Chinese dances from Guang Xi, Hain, Tibet and Mongolia by choreographer Ming Yan Cui from the Central Ballet of China.
For the concert finale, Abby and Lena Jarvie sing Christmas songs and RMBT performs its “Winter Wonderland Kickline.”
Tickets are $15 for general seating and are available online at http://www.rmbt.org or by calling 406-549-5155.
