Scholarship applications are being accepted for Flathead Valley guitar students and teachers to attend its first annual Crown of the Continent Guitar Festival and Workshop, Aug. 29-Sept. 4 at Flathead Lake Lodge in Bigfork.
The CCGF Festival and Workshop offers a rare opportunity for students and teachers to study with renowned guitar artists, including Pat Metheny, Larry Carlton, Alex De Grassi and Scott Tennant, and jam with other musicians in one of the most exquisite landscapes in the world.
The event includes six days of intimate workshops, master classes, and jam sessions for both the serious and casual student in jazz, rock, blues, acoustic and classical guitar.
The CCGF hopes that by providing scholarships to local guitar teachers, allowing them to grow their playing skills and teaching abilities, the workshop can have a lasting impact on guitar music in the Flathead Valley. The student scholarships will allow at least two students a once-in-a-lifetime chance to learn from some of the best musicians in the United States today.
Scholarship sponsors include North Valley Hospital, the Flathead Lake Lodge, the Community Foundation for a Better Bigfork, Jack and Sydney Waring and one anonymous donor.
North Valley Music School is coordinating the scholarships with partial and full scholarships available. Applicants for one of the student scholarships must be under age 18 as of Sept. 1; and for the other, applicants must be under age 21 as of Sept. 1. They need to have studied guitar for at least two years and have been a resident of the Flathead Valley for at least one year.
Students will be asked to complete an application and an essay about the role of guitar in their life, and submit a recording. Financial need will be taken into consideration.
Teacher applicants are also required to be Flathead Valley residents and will be asked to complete an application and an essay. For complete requirements and an application form visit www.northvalleymusicschool.org or call 406-862-8074.
