“The Mystery of Irma Vep” comes to Whitefish stage
Published: May 28, 2010
Whitefish Theatre Company offers a Cabaret-style production of Charles Ludlum’s “The Mystery of Irma Vep” as the final community theatre production of the 2009-2010 season. The campy tribute to melodramas and mysteries opens with a sneak preview on June 2 and runs June 3-5 and 10-11 at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish.
Two actors play eight roles in this hilarious takeoff on Daphne de Maurier and Jane Eyre novels. The sidesplitting gothic spoof is set in a Victorian mansion and an Egyptian tomb.
The plot begins as Lady Enid has comes to Mandacrest as the new wife of Lord Edgar Hillcrest, unaware of the tragedy that befell his first wife, Lady Irma. Lady Enid must command all her resources to battle the curse of werewolves, vampires and even an Egyptian mummy brought back to life, if she is to secure a happy future for her husband and herself.
Artistic director Nancy Nei directs veteran actors Phelps L’Hommedieu and Tony Hernandez in this gothic romp of fast changes and seemingly effortless character switches.
Table or mezzanine seating are available during this evening of cabaret theatre, with food and drink available for purchase.
