“Willy Wonka Jr.” opens April 30 in Whitefish

Fifty-four Flathead Valley kids, ranging in ages from 8-14, are busy preparing for Whitefish Theatre Company’s presentation of “Willy Wonka Jr.,” 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, April 30-May 8, and 4 p.m. Sundays, May 2 and 9, at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish.

Young thespians, hailing from Columbia Falls, Kalispell and Whitefish, are singing, dancing and acting their way into the delightful characters and uplifting story created from Roald Dahl’s “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”

In this scrumdidilyumptious musical adaptation, audiences will find all of the book’s favorite characters including Willy Wonka, the Oompa-Loompas, Mike and Mrs. TeaVee and Violet Beauregarde. Familiar songs include “The Candy Man” and “Pure Imagination.”

Education director April Dawn Vogel directs this show with choreography by Cynthia Dearing. More than 60 colorful costumes have been designed by Lonnie Porro and Marie Meckel, with the help of over 20 sewers and stitchers. Colorful candy set pieces and props are designed by Corrie Colbert and Jesse Rosier. Production manager and set designer is Colin Arakaki.
