Published: August 20, 2010
Whitefish Theatre Company will hold auditions for the first two community theatre productions and the Black Curtain staged reading series during August and September. Auditions are Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 23-24, for “Dividing the Estate” by Horton Foote; Tuesday, Sept. 6, for the Black Curtain Series; and Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 20-21, for “The Secret Garden.”
In “Dividing the Estate,” a deeply funny play about the Gordons of Harrison, Texas, Academy Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Foote explores what happens when death comes to dinner. The cast of 13 includes nine women, ages 21 and up, and four men, ages 30 and up. Kim Krueger directs the production, which will be staged Oct. 7-17.
In order to increase awareness of WTC’s Black Curtain staged reading series, and to give more actors a chance to participate, the company will hold a general audition for all of this season’s shows Sept. 6. Actors may come prepared with an audition piece of up to three minutes long or read from the scripts.
This year’s productions include:
• “Opus,” a new play by Michael Hollinger that offers an insider’s look at a high-strung string quartet going through changes in personnel and program. The production, with roles for four men, ages 35-55, and one woman, age 20-30, will be staged Oct. 23-24.
• “Mary’s Wedding” by Stephen Massicotte, a sweeping tale set during World War I, has roles for one man and one woman, ages 18-35. The play will be presented Jan. 29-30.
• “Reasons to be Pretty,” a wry comedy by Neil LaBute, includes two men and two women ages 25-45. The production is scheduled for March 12-13.
Auditions for “The Secret Garden,” a musical version of the enchanting children’s classic by Frances Hodgson Barnett, are Sept. 20-21. The cast includes 10 women and 11 men, ages 15 and up. Auditioners should come prepared with a vocal piece; a pianist will be provided. Artistic Director Nancy Nei directs this play, which runs Dec. 2-19.
All auditions are held at 7 p.m. at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish. Scripts of the main stage productions are available at all county library reference desks.
